CAT® S60 Rugged Thermal Imaging Waterproof Unlocked Smartphone

I had some reservations regarding this phone, but none of them panned out. The screen size and resolution is great, the phone isn't too big in your hand or in your pocket, and it performs well. This phone is AWESOME. Whether it's the 5M waterproof rating, the FLIR, MicroSD support, the battery life, or the "vanilla android" experience, this phone is high quality (The unit has dual SIM SLOTS, but the second one is not enabled. I didn't order it with this feature in mind, but it was a HUGE let-down to see the slot there only to find out I can't use it! WTF, CAT ?!) I don't play games on my phone - I use it for work, so I can't comment on any of that - but this phone is plenty fast for any of the apps I run day-in, day-out. The screen is a little smaller than I'm used to (I'm coming from a Note 4), but it's big enough. Call quality is great. The speaker doesn't seem any louder than a regular phone - this isn't bad, but if you had a hard time hearing your old phone in a noisy environment, you'll have a hard time hearing this one too. It's a really rugged phone. It also comes with a screen protector - a nice touch! I'll probably be replacing it with a tempered glass one in the future (I like the way they feel better), but it lets you keep the glass pristine right from the get-go. As for the FLIR - the feature that sets this phone apart - it's an amazing tool. There's one minor annoyance - you can't turn off the "FLIR" logo which can sometimes get in the way and overall makes the output less useful - but if that's the biggest complaint you're doing all right. No matter what field you're in there's a use for the FLIR. If you point it at a breaker box the temperature will give you a good idea of what's in use. You can see hot spots in equipment in a rack - useful for tweaking cooling solutions whether you're IT, AV, or electrical. If you're HVAC it's a great way to see if there's a blocked coil in a radiator, or see the hotspots in a room - the list just goes on and on. Yes, there are add-on solutions out there (FLIR one), and stand-alone FLIR devices - but they're not nearly as convenient and durable as having it built into your phone. All in all, It's a great device that can compete with any other phone on the market in "regular stuff", and then blow it out of the water with the special features (rugged / waterproof / FLIR). I can't put this thing down!

I first heard about this phone back in February 2016. As soon as I read about it I knew I had to have it. I am a firefighter and this phone has many features that are appealing to me. The Thermal Imaging Camera or TIC has many benefits for firefighters. Search, overhauling, hazmat, car accidents. So this alone makes this phone a great choice for me. It is also waterproof, rugged and built for demanding, physical professions. Okay, the phone is big, heavy and thick. But I would have battery pack cases on my other phones so size never really bothered me. The CAT S60 looks very nice for a rugged phone. I brushed steel outer rim looks very nice and overall I think it is a handsome phone. I bought a tactical looking holder for it with a belt loop and I think it looks very professional when I wear this holder at work. You can read all of the information about the phone yourself. You can read how rugged, waterproof, etc. it is. I did not really test it by dropping it, or throwing it underwater. The most extreme I have got with it so far was to take it in the shower and use the thermal imaging camera to take some cool pictures of the hot water coming out of the shower. I also rode my bike in a lite rain. So I did not really give it a water test, but I did expose it to water and it was fine. The phone also works good with the different kinds of gloves that I used on my hands. The thermal imaging camera works okay. The resolution on it is not that great, but it is functional. Then again a high resolution thermal imaging camera will set you back thousands, up to tens of thousands of dollars. The thermal imaging camera does have a tendency to pause and stutter, but once again it is still functional. I will not get too deep into this camera as there are many professional reviews out there you can read. This phone is GSM only. But I did read that CAT plans to have CDMA versions of this phone in the future. The phone itself comes with a very plain no add on version of Android called Marshmellow. It does not come with a lot of bloatware, so for the first time ever I have a smartphone that came with a non-removable apps taking up all of my memory. I love this aspect of the phone. With its mid level processor this was key to keeping the phone fast. Even though it has a mid level processor I find the phone fast and responsive. I know this has to be because there is no manufacturer skin laid over top of Android slowing it down. I find it loads apps quick enough and I have not had a problem with the phone being too slow. The speakers are just okay. They are loud enough but really lack clarity. I think the audio needs to be higher as if you are on the phone in a noisey environment you might have a hard time hearing someone. But I have had phones that have had better speakers and audio and I've had phones that have had the same or worse. These speakers are not for listening to music though. Use a portable speaker or headphones for that. The bluetooth works better than my previous phones. It does not cut out like they did when I jog. I can even put this phone in my bike bag and still have the bluetooth not cut out to my wireless headphones. I have not really used the camera yet, but if you search for reviews there are many out there explaining their views on the regular camera. The 32GB of storage is a welcome benefit. I have a good deal of apps and about 40 songs on it and it is nowhere near full. I do not even need to add an external SD card yet and do not plan too. Overall I love this phone. I never before waited like a child for a phone to be released. I was so excited when it was released and still am playing with it all the time. I love that I can have this phone in my pocket in a fire and know that it will have the best chance of any phone to survive the heat, sweat, water and whatever else is thrown at it and me and survive. I love that if I have to do a water rescue that I can have my phone in my pocket and not worry about it, and just do my job. I love that I can ride my bike or jog in the rain and know that this phone will brush it off and be fine. For my career and lifestyle this phone is a perfect choice.

Can't beat it! Finally a phone I don't have to replace every month.
